The wife and I made our way up to Columbus on Sunday to knock another band off our bucket list. We had never seen the Eagles live before and though it would have been nice to have seen the original members, it was still a fantastic concert. Vince Gill and Decon Frye fit right in and the harmonies were mind blowing! They did several Joe Walsh numbers including a rendition of the James Gang Funk #49 with a horn arrangement that gave me chills. I hope when I’m 70 I’m still able to rock like these guys!
The missus and I traveled up to Newport, KY yesterday evening to the Madison theater to see our first concert for 2018. It was our first time at the Madison and it’s a great place to see an intimate show, which are always the best shows. Jonathan Coulton and Aimee Mann put on a fantastic show. It was a wonderful evening.
The wife and I ran up to Cincinnati yesterday evening to see two great women singer/songwriters. Our Cincinnati friend Kim Taylor who opened up for the fantastic Ruthie Foster. Kim entertained us with some new songs from her latest CD “Love’s A Dog”, some of her older stuff and a new tune that may be on her next record. Afterwards I got a chance to chat with her and get a picture.
Ruthie then came on stage and just blew the roof off the place! What a unbelievable voice! She did about 90 minutes of some new songs from her latest CD and some old goodies. Her rendition of Johnny Cash’s Ring of Fire was absolutely gorgeous. Ruthie is a definite must see if you ever get a chance!
I spent last Tuesday evening listening to singer songwriter Amos Lee. It was a great show. The acoustics at the Paramount Theater are excellent. It had me wishing that the show was being recorded. The sound was that good. He played for about two hours to a packed house. I would highly recommend seeing Amos live if you get a chance.
